Does IIT meet the technology applications requirement for graduation?

Yes, Intro to Information technology meets the Technology Applications state 
credit because it has the same PEIMS code as Business Computer Information 
Systems.

Do students earn college credit for IIT?

Yes, students can earn college credit in IIT. The class has an articulation 
agreement with Austin Community College through the Texas Tech Prep program. 
Students must earn a grade of 80 or above and be recommended by their 
instructor. IIT articulates with ACC course ITSC 1309 Integrated Software 
Applications I.

Is IIT only for IT Academy students?

IIT is strongly recommended* for all freshman IT Academy students. However, 
any 
freshman may enroll in IIT on a space available basis.

*Academy students may choose to take Intro to Electrical Careers or Intro to Graphics Communications as their freshman academy course in addition to or in place of IIT.

What is the benefit of taking IIT as an IT Academy student?

Course requirements are the same for academy and non-academy students; 
however, many events such as guest speakers, industry field trips and LAN 
parties are space-limited. IT Academy students have priority over non-
academy students for these slots.

How is IIT different from BCIS?

In addition to content covered in BCIS, IIT also gives students an 
opportunity to work with Flash animation and Photoshop. Students learn about 
computer hardware and networking, webpage development, and JAVA programming. 

The course is designed to introduce students to the different IT Academy strands so that they have a better of idea of what they would like to do.

Can a student with credit for BCIS I in middle school still enroll in IIT?

Yes, if a student earns credit for BCIS I in middle school, they may still 
enroll in IIT. The student will earn credit for BCIS II in that case.

IIT is a computer class, why do I have to learn about all this workplace junk?

The BCIS program contains TEKS that relate to helping students learn how to 
be successful in the workplace. So your IIT class is much more than just a 
computer class.

Some of the TEKS for BCIS...

(1)  The student develops skills for success in the workplace. The student 
is expected to:

(A)  locate and interpret written information;

(B)  incorporate supplementary resources and references;

(C)  demonstrate active listening through oral and written feedback;

(D)  demonstrate productive work habits and attitudes, for example, 
dependability and punctuality; and

(E)  organize ideas logically and sequentially.



(2)  The student develops skills for success in the workplace. The student 
is expected to:

(A)  exhibit productive work habits and attitudes;

(B)  prioritize work to fulfill responsibilities and meet deadlines; and

(C)  demonstrate characteristics for successful working relationships, for 
example, give and receive criticism, and exercise self-control.

Are there any student organizations associated with IIT?

Future Business Leaders of America is the student organization for IIT 
students interested in extracurricular activities. Students may compete at 
the district, state and national levels in areas such as computer 
programming, web development and multimedia presentations.
