This is my chance to tell you a little about myself. I am going into my
second year teaching 9th grade Biology at Stony Point. After this last year,
I am ready for anything! It was a great first year full of new learning
experiences, frustrations, and relationships. Above it all, my passion for
teaching has been deepened and invigorated.
I grew up in Trent Texas, a small town outside of Abilene. I graduated from
Abilene Christian University in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and
received my teaching certification from McMurry University soon after. I
have a wonderful husband, Gregg, that I have been married to now for almost
3 years. Before becoming a teacher my interest in science has given me many
once in a lifetime opportunities. I have conducted field research on animals
in ecosystems in Michigan, and I have also had the opportunity to work in
the education department at a zoo, getting to educate the public about
animals and conservation.
To write about my personality presents me a challenge. I am by most
standards a very modest person. I am quite, diligent, smart, and willing to
face new challenges. I take my responsibilities seriously, yet I know not to
be serious all the time. I am caring and compassionate while very grounded
and disciplined. Overall I have a great love and passion for science and I
look forward to sharing it with my students this year.
It is my mission this year for all of my classes to become a self managing,
positive, and polite atmosphere for learning. I want each student to adhere
to the expectations I set fort for them as well I shall live up to the
expectations they have of me. I want them to be able to explore the nature
and philosophy of science in an engaged, hands-on classroom environment as
to further their understanding of the world around them.
