The article we talked about in class, "Afghan girls...school", can be found at the link below. I will also put the powerpoint we looked at in class on the homework page in case you would like to refer to it as you read the article. Keep in mind, you should be trying to make connections between this non-fiction news article and the short story we read in class, "Where Have You Gone Charming Billy?". Have a great weekend!
You might have to copy and past the link if you're unable to click on it.

I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. Here are a few announcements and reminders:
This week we will be discussing and quizzing over House on Mango Street. Also, everyone will have a chance to retake the "Etymology Quiz" in class Thursday and Friday so make sure you study your prefixes and suffixes! Lastly, this week we will be reading a short story by Tim O'Brien along with a closely related news article. Both of these pieces will be the basis of our Unit 6 Short Response Assessment (a test grade) next Tuesday and Wednesday.
*Students in PAP, there will be a House on Mango Street TAKE HOME exam. You should receive it Thursday the 28th.*

Welcome back everyone! I hope you enjoyed the winter break. This semester we will kick off with SRI testing and some library time. Next, we'll discuss etymology and ease back into our daily routine. Remember pre-AP kiddos, if you haven't done so, please procure copies of the three novels we will be reading as a class this semester: House on Mango Street, Animal Farm, and Fahrenheit 451. We will be reading them in that order. I will be posting a reading schedule under the new reading page.

Today is the last day of Night. Tuesday marks the beginning of our Career Research Unit. Thanks to all the parents who filled out and had their students return the blue sheets I sent home! I'm not sure when we will get to have those parents come in to speak about their chosen careers, but as soon as I do I will let you know via an email invitation.
I will be posting all of the research assignments, questions, and rubrics on a Career Research Page very soon!

If you have not turned in your poetry packet, do so ASAP!

Those of you who were gone on the ROTC field trip need to attend my tutorials to make up the summative assessment (poetry analysis) you missed in class.

We are starting Night this week!

Make sure you bring in your writer's notebooks- a spiral or composition book that will stay in our class.
