Sept. 7 - Sept. 11
Monday - Labor Day
Tuesday - Volume lab - Students will measure volume of a solid regular shaped object and measure different amounts of liquids to come up with specific amounts and colors.
Wednesday - Completion of the volume lab and graph the results of the colored liquids
Thursday - Students will use the triple beam balances to measure mass. They will measure the mass of 50 pennies and draw a line graph. They will make prediction from their graphs.
Friday - Completion of the mass of the pennies lab and then they will start an activity on estimating the mass of different objects and then measuring them.
September 14 - 18
Monday - Finding the mass of different objects using the triple beam balance
Tuesday - Discussion of the different types of measurements in the metric system and the units. Also the equipment used to find the measurements.
Wednesday - Go over how scientists use observations in the scientific method. Do an activity on using your senses to solve the mystery in the canisters.
Thursday - Notes on the scientific method
Friday - Worksheet on Planning variables in an experiment.
September 21-15
Monday - Understanding independent and dependent variables in an experiment. Using a sponge bob worksheet on variables.
Tuesday - Lab on variables. Can you change the variables to get a better outcome with an aluminum boat.
Wednesday - Test on safety, scientific method, metric measurements and variables
Thursday - Start the lab on mystery substances
Friday - Continuation of mystery substance lab.
September 28 - October 2
Monday - Start the lab on mystery substances
Tuesday - Continuation of the lab on mystery substances
Wednesday - Continuation of the lab on mystery substances
Thursday - Lab test on the mystery substance lab
Friday - Beginning of chapter 2 - completion of vocabulary words of the unit on mapping.
October 5 - 9
Monday - Beginning of chapter 2 - completion of vocabulary words of the unit on mapping.
Tuesday - Finding places on a globe, students use globes to find different landmarks and places on earth
Wednesday - Using road maps to find places
Thursday - Continuation of the road maps
Friday - Using relief maps to identify the 3 different land formations.
October 26 - 30
Monday - Completion of school maps and chapter 3 vocabulary
Tuesday - Notes on minerals from powerpoint
Wednesday - Lab on the densities and specific gravities of two different minerals
Thursday - completion of lab
Friday - teacher conferences
Nov. 2 - 6
Monday - Worksheet on the properties of minerals
Tuesday - Worksheet on the hardness of minerals
Wednesday - Activity on the crystal structure systems of minerals. Start making sugar crystals
Thursday - Continuation of crystal forms and making crystals. Students can get extra credit by creatively displaying their crystal shapes.
Friday - Completion of activity and answering questions.
November 9 - 13
Monday - Start making chart for mineral identification lab. Go over the properties of a mineral.
Tuesday - Mineral Idenification Lab - Students given 20 different minerals to identify in their lab groups
Wednesday - Mineral Idenification Lab - Continuation of identification of minerals using the physical properties.
Thursday - Begin the mineral lab test. Students will be able to use their charts and be timed identifying the minerals and answering questions about the properties of the minerals
Friday - Same as Thursday.
