Welcome

Hello and welcome to the Violin Studio of Craig Sorgi at Trinity University
in San Antonio, Texas.

Students in my studio will study various techniques and repertoire designed
to improve their playing skills, increase their understanding of the various
periods in music and the styles of playing appropriate to them, and increase
their enjoyment of music in general. Performance is an important component
of the study of music and all studio members will be expected to demonstrate
their understanding of the materials studied through various performance
opportunities. Music majors and minors are expected to perform in at least
one solo recital prior to graduation appropriate to their degree
requirements. Non-majors or minors are expected to participate in our
semester group recitals. Students can also perform in Wednesday performance
classes. I do not require, but strongly encourage, students to attend the
many excellent concert events open to them both on and off campus.

In the studio we have players at many different musical and technical levels
(from more advanced to less advanced, majors to non-majors, etc.). This
being said all students entering my studio must have some background
experience with the violin which may include past membership in school
and/or youth orchestra programs and/or private lessons. Students should at
least be able to read music and be able to demonstrate a middle school level
technique (3rd position and vibrato, for example). This is not a course for
beginning students. You must have permission from the Music Department
before joining the studio.

I hope you enjoy your visit to the studio site. If you have any questions
please feel free to email me and I will be happy to answer them for you.
