About Me

I am a graduate of DePaul University ('82) in Chicago, Illinois where I was
a student of Victor Aitay, Concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Since 1982 I have been a member of the San Antonio Symphony 1st Violin
Section and during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons I was appointed to be the
orchestra's Acting Assistant Concertmaster. I have also been the
Concertmaster of the Lyric Opera of San Antonio since 1999 and in 2005 I
was appointed to be the Concertmaster of the Mid-Texas Symphony. In the summer
of 2008 I became the Director of the Young Artists Program for the Cactus Pear
Music Festival, a summer chamber music festival here in San Antonio.

I have been very active as a chamber music performer and solo recitalist in
the South Texas area for the last 27 years and I am also a frequent
performer of new music.

Music education has played an important part in my career. I have had a very
successful home studio for many years (many of my former students have gone
on to successful teaching careers). While in San Antonio I have been active in
the public school music programs as a teacher and guest clinician and in 2003
I joined the music faculty of Trinity University.

I love to collect recordings, read (Fitzgerald and Steinbeck are my
favorites), cook (Italian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, vegetarian- I am one, you
name it), go to art museums, and watch movies (I'm nuts about Al Pacino). I
also enjoy swimming, long power walks in MacAllister Park and riding my "stump
jumper" on the park's trails. My favorite restaurants in SA are "Sompong" (a
Thai place), "Pho Ha Long (Vietnamese)", and "India Oven". My favorite
violinists are Leonid Kogan, David Oistrakh, Gidon Kremer, and Anne-Sophie
Mutter. My favorite composer/piece of music is whatever I happen to be working
on at the moment and I love to explore unusual repertoire. I am married to a
career music educator (one of the finest I know) and we have two wonderful
sons: a violinist/composer and a cellist/artist. We also have a big, hairy
Golden Retriever named Sibelius.

You have been listening to "Song to the Moon" from the opera, Rusalka,
composed by Antonin Dvorak. This is a recording of myself and pianist, Faith
DeBow, from our April 3rd, 2007 faculty recital. This was a recital in memory
of Johannes Brahms given on the 110th anniversary of his passing and was
comprised entirely of music composed by his friends. If you would like to hear
more excerpts from this recital there are additional selections on the
Recordings page. We hope you will enjoy them!
