Mrs. Chumley's Shark WebQuest, Fact or Fiction?

Role2

A Marine Biologist:

The Great White Shark is in the Headlines and you have been sent by Sea
World to determine if the report is true or fictitious. Your job is to
protect the great white if it is present because you know it plays an
important role in the ecosystem of the ocean, especially since it is able to
detect the thrashing of a wounded or stressed animal from over a half mile
away. You are a little rusty on great whites since you have been studying
coral reef activity, but you know you can brush up on your knowledge with a
little review of the habitat, senses, and diet of the great white shark.
After a little investigation of the facts, you are ready to determine the
validity of the newspaper headlines and will be prepared to present those
findings to your peers. Make sure your diary entry includes all aspects
mentioned above and other relevent information you discover along the way.
Naturally you will document and produce the map of world distribution for
the sharks, information on senses, and diet. Your sketches will be labeled
accurately and relevent resources will be cited with your work. Remember
all your training, and know that people prey on sharks, but do sharks really
prey on people?

Victim's Statement from Newspaper:

Statement that made the headline,"SHARK ATTACK" appear:

Read the following account given by the victim:

"I was swimming for fun and all of a sudden, it hit me from behind. NO, I
did not loose any flesh, but whatever it was, it was huge! I swam as fast
as I could back to my surfboard and paddled quickly to shore. No, I did not
see his dorsal fin, but that don't mean nothing! It was a shark I tell you,
a GREAT WHITE SHARK that nearly ate me up! You have to do something 'bout
that shark a'for he eats somebody else."
