I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season!
Wow, can you believe the holidays have come and gone? I'm ready to get back
to work and dig in with the kiddos!
The second grade team will be assessing the children in reading and math as
we get back into the swing of things. I'm excited to see how much they have
grown! We'll be using this important data to help guide our instruction and
help meet the needs of the students.
Below you will find unchanging information regarding Guided Reading, Daily
Folder procedures, and Student Arrival Time.
Many of you may have questions about the
number of books that your child keeps in their reading bag. Typically, your
child will have as many as five and as few as 2 in their bag. Your child
needs to read their new book for the week. The other books will remain in
their bags for variety over the weekend. The books are on their level and
will help them with reading accuracy, fluency and comprehension. We also
work with these books in the classroom during reader's workshop. Having
them "on hand" and readily available makes transitions to assignments much
smoother. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about guided
reading.
Please check your child's red Daily Folder and initial the behavior calendar
everyday! This is a great way for us to communicate and gives you another
opportunity to congratulate your child on having an awesome day!!
Although the first bell rings at 7:40, students are encouraged and welcome to
come to class as early as 7:15am to get started on our problem solving, take
AR tests on the computer or finish any incomplete work.
