Hello Everyone!
**Thank you to all of those that have sent in treasures for our treasure box. Our class is very
appreciative of your help.**
**The past few weeks I have been completing your child's data folder during learning centers. When
we come back from the break we will be completing our middle of the year TPRI and DRA
assessments. Once these tests are completed we will begin guided reading again during learning
centers. Please be practicing reading at home. Your child can help you find sight words in the
books you read to them as well as practice reading the simple books they have made in class.**
During learning centers I have begun guided reading. Students are reading
their guided reading books with me during centers. In addition to reading their stories, we also
discuss the pictures, high frequency words, characters, and the beginning, middle, and end of each
story. Students are bringing their new guided reading book home in their backpack. When your
child is not reading their book please keep their book in their backpack. If students do not have their
book in their backpack I will be unable to send home a new book when I meet with their group.
When reading with your child at home you can also discuss the characters in the story, the main idea
of the story, and what happened at the beginning, middle, and end. You can also be reviewing print
concepts such as the cover, title page, and what the author and illustrator are. We have introduced
these concepts at school, and you can reinforce those concepts at home.
Our library storytime is has changed to Thursdays from 8:00-8:30. Students will now be
allowed to check out a new book each day. So when your child is ready to get
a new book please send it back in their backpack and your child will be sent
to check a new book out to bring home.
**Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in their backpack everyday.**
