About The Teacher
Willkommen, bienvenue, bienvenidos....welcome! I am Andrew Ortiz Jr, and I teach 7th grade Language Arts at Walsh Middle School. This is my 16th year in education. In that time, I've also taught 5th, 6th, and 8th grades, Language Arts, Spanish and French, Math, and Science. I hold two degrees from the University of Texas at Austin: a B.A. in Sociology and a B.S. in Applied Learning and Development. (Hook'em Horns!) In 2004, I earned my National Board Certification in Language Arts for Early Adolescence. I am currently working on an M.Ed from Texas State. I hope to bring a well-rounded approach to your child's learning experience.
Mission Label:
Mission
Working with adolescents requires patience, understanding, and a good sense of humor. I firmly believe that these elements help create a respectful and productive environment. I also believe in the 3Rs of education: rigor, relevance and relationship. I strive to challenge my students, help them make real-world connections and build meaningful and productive relationships with each one. I also hope to help foster a love for reading and writing in every child.
