The role of a a registered nurse in school is to keep kids healthy enough to
learn. This may involve long-term illness or simple colds and flu. It also
involves keeping shots up to date and informing families when there is a
change in the health or potential health of your children. Here are some of
the things you can expect:
- Yearly screening for vision, hearing, height and weight.
- 1st, 3rd and 5th grade screening for potential diabetes.
- 5th grade screening for scoliosis.
- routine dental screen for all students available for 2009-2010.
- information regarding diseases in school.
- referrals for medical services.
- referrals for clothing as needed.
- referral/assistance for dental care.
- assistance with eyeglasses.
- referral for assistance for families with special financial or physical
needs.
