About The Teacher
Hello! I am your child's Art teacher at Westwood Elementary. I have been teaching the Art program here since 1995 full time and have substituted for this district for many years. I teach Kindergarten through third grade art. I received my degree in Fine Arts from Sam Houston State University, in 1972. I have a double major in Art and an all levels teaching certification with a specialty in watercolor painting. I also have an Elementary Education certification from Lamar University, completed in 1974. I taught 2nd,4th, 5th and 6th grades in Beaumont, Texas and Huntsville,Texas. I also taught Junior High Art in Pasedena,Texas and High School Art in Beaumont,Texas, as well as adult watercolor classes at The Beaumont Art League in 1973 and fabric painting at The Houston Junior Form before coming to Westwood Elementary. While I was raising my three children I stayed home and created my own art business. I painted portraits, fabrics, watercolor paintings and experimented with lots of jewelry mediums. The jewelry went over very well. I still make and sell jewelry and art work of many mediums. I do this mostly during the summers of course! I have a variety of other interests and hobbies as well. I have always enjoyed gardening and developed an interest in building and fixing things, more out of necessity than anything else. Problem solving is a handy tool in the classroom also. We have to be inventive to do some of our projects. If you have some useful materials not being utilized I would love to hear about them. I enjoy watching your children develop their skills and creativity here at Westwood Elementary. I hope I have the opportunity to get to know you in the years to come. Sincerely, Jody Blessitt Art Instructor-Westwood Elementary
