| The TEXAS BLUEBONNET AWARD reading program was established
in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of
current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite
books. Third Grade students at Westwood are given the opportunity to read 5
out of the 20 bluebonnet books and vote for their favorite.
The ACCELERATED READING PROGRAM is a reading motivation
program that allows students to read designated books from the school, to
take computerized multiple choice quizzes on them, and to earn points on
quizzes that are successfully passed.
BEAR NIGHT is a Westwood tradition. This program designed for third
grade students starts in the second semester. Students meeting the
requirements of completeing two months of reading for 20 minutes a night
