I have been teaching in Friendswood ISD since 1984. The first five years as an
aide, working with children with severe and profound disaabilities. During
this time, I was also working on my teaching degree. I graduated from
University of Houston Clear Lake, with a degree in Elementary Education and
specialization in Special Education.My first teaching assignment was with the
students in the Life Skills class. I began working with the PPCD students the
first year I was in the classroom as "the teacher,"due to the legislature
mandating the "3 is 3"rule. (Children were eligible on their third birthday,
instead of being being three before school started.) At that time, the PPCD
Class swelled to 17 students. In order to serve that number of students we
had to get creative. My lifeskills class only had 3 students,some of them were
mainstreamed. So I volunteered to "help out." Needless to say, 17 years
later, I'm still in PPCD.
To improve the lives of the students and their families by helping them learn
strategies to overcome their disabilities.
