About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
This is my twelfth year to teach. I have taught fourth grade, second grade, and served for two years as the Literacy Coordinator for a K-6 campus. I am a Friendswood High School Graduate. I then graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. I am very excited to begin this year because of the wonderful experiences in past years. I love children and truly enjoy working with them. I have three children. One is in 3rd grade here. One is in 5th grade at Westwood- Bales this year, and my youngest just turned four! Teaching is what I have dreamed about for as long as I can remember. I worked hard to earn my degree and obtain my Texas teaching certificate. I recently earned my Masters in Educational Administration and my Administrator's certification. Outside of class I go to workshops, conferences, in-service meetings, and seminars. I stay up-to-date in my professional knowledge through these activities as well as through reading professional journals and working with my fellow teachers. I love to teach! I also love to read, write, exercise, and work on scrapbooks. I really love to watch football! The Dallas Cowboys are my favorite team as you can see if you visit my classroom in the Fall. You might also notice all the Bronco fanfare; this is because I especially love watching my son play for Friendswood Broncos. Watching my daughter compete in gymnastics meets is something I also enjoy doing. This year, my youngest will be starting baseball, so I can add that to my list of "things I LOVE to do!" I am an Abydos Writing, formerly known as the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas, Trainer. I teach teachers how to teach writing in the classroom. I am also an Independent Literacy Consultant. I have done Literacy training in Alvin ISD, Aldine ISD, Danbury ISD, and even here in FISD. I have had the privilege and honor of learning about literacy and the reading and writing processes from Dr. Joyce Armstrong Carroll, Edward Wilson, Mary Ellen Giacobbe, and Irene Fountas as well as members of her faculty at Lesley University in Boston. I am a life-long learner!
Mission Label:
Mission
We are going to have a successful year full of learning, fun, and hard work. In order for the children to achieve the greatest amount of success, we must work together as a team. I desire for students to derive long-term benefits from their time in my class by continuing to grow and develop. I believe I will serve them best by teaching them: how to define a problem, how to decide what they need to solve it, how to find and evaluate new information, how to recognize their limits, how to be prepared for change and how to change. I will be engaging the whole child throughout the year to meet their educational, social, and emotional needs. In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers and my students' parents and caregivers. I believe that great things can happen when we work together!
