Do you assign homework?
Minimal homework is assigned. All homework is sent home with the purpose of
reviewing material practiced in class. Homework should not be tedious and you
should not have to teach your child new information. Work that is sent home
should take no longer than fifteen minutes. If the homework is taking an
unreasonable amount of time or is causing frustration please stop, write me a
note, and we will address together. Homework for the week will be posted on
the announcement link.
When will I see home readers?
It will take me several weeks to assess student reading levels. After this
time, I will send home a reader nightly. The books sent home will be read in
class. You should not be "teaching" your child the words rather celebrating
what we have done in class. Please make sure the books come back to school
each day. We often read the same book for several days and participation is
difficult without the materials. Plan on spending fifteen minutes reading
together every night.
My child is absent. What should I do?
When your child returns please send a note to school stating the absence
reason. Make up work may be sent home depending on the skills and lessons
missed. Often times this is difficult as our class doesn't complete many
worksheets. I will spend additional time with your child ensuring that they
are caught up.
When is library day?
Our library day is on Tuesday. Library will begin the second week of school.
My child needs to go home a different way. What do I do?
Please send me a written note explaining how your child will go home. Please
do not email me the request. I focus my time working with students and rarely
have time to check email during the day.
Is my concern large enough to ask for a conference?
Our communication is vital for your child's success! Please don't hesitate to
call the school or send a note to request a conference. My conference period
is from 8:45 until 9:30. I am able to have telephone conferences and would
gladly meet after school. I will conference with all parents after the first
few weeks of school as well as the conclusion of the year.
