All About Ms. Patton

I am so thrilled to begin my second year at Westwood Elementary and my 18th
year of teaching.

I am originally from Galveston, Texas, home of the fighting Tornadoes. After
graduating from Ball High School, I made my way up to Fort Worth and attended
Texas Christian University, graduating with a BS in Education in 1992.

After graduation, I went back home and taught third grade for 2 years in
Galveston ISD. I then moved to Clear Creek ISD and taught 4th grade for 2
years and then found that my real gift lies in teaching first graders! I've
been teaching first grade for the past 13 years and love it. Most recently, I
spent 11 years in Spring Branch ISD in Houston.

As for my family, I have one precious daughter who is in first grade here at
Westwood. The two of us moved here from Houston last year and have really
enjoyed getting re-acquainted with Friendswood, as my aunt, uncle and cousins
grew up here! Lauren enjoyed many activities this year, most recently, the
Friendswood Area Swim Team (Go FAST!) What fun we had this summer hanging out
at the pool for practices and swim meets. We've also enjoyed making lots of
new friends.

My parents are still in Galveston. My mom is the executive director of The
Grand 1894 Opera House, where she recently celebrated 25 years being the director!
My father is a former choral director and voice teacher who is now retired,
but still teaches private voice lessons, and directs the Galveston College
Community Chorus. He is also the choir master at First Presbyterian Church in
Galveston.
Hurricane Ike left them with damage to their house, their church, and the
Opera House, but I'm so glad to say that all are on the mend. We've spent
lots of weekends in Galveston helping to re-do what was damaged. We're all
hoping for no hurricanes this season!

I have one sister who lives in Houston, with her husband and my 2 precious
nieces, Eleanor and Charlotte! My daughter, Lauren, loves to spend time with
her cousins! All three girls are crazy for anything "American Girl!"

When I'm not teaching, I love to read - especially mysteries - and I love most
sports. I am a big Astros fan and I love to swim. I'd like to consider
myself as pretty creative and love painting and creating things for others. I
am a singer, and have enjoyed performing in the Junior League Charity Ball in
Houston for many years. I am also a member of the choir at my church in
Houston. It's always a joy being on stage!

I am thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful school district and a wonderful
team at Westwood. I'm sure this year will be fantastic!

Class Constitution

We the kids of room 17, in order to have an ideal classroom, promise to:
1. tell the truth all the time,
2. apologize when accidents happen,
3. be proud of our work and our classroom,
4. clean up everything we use,
5. follow the Westwood school rules,
6. help others by being a good friend,
7. follow the rules in a game and take turns,
8. use good manners, and
9. fill each others' buckets!

Together, we wrote this constitution, so that we can live by this list of promises, each day, in our
classroom, at Westwood Elementary.
