SUMMER WORKOUT: I found a good workout online at
http://expertfootball.com/training/routine_schedule.php. You should feel free to modify rest
periods and exercises if necessary, but times should improve and rest periods should decrease by
a few seconds every other week at most. For example - you start your 120's with a rest period
of 1 minute. Rest time should be down to around 45sec by the end of Summer.
- Chip away at times and quantities little by little. Don't worry if you are not doing the same
work as an upperclassman. If you keep working, time will get you there.
- Learn to push yourself and accept good conditioning pain (pain from muscles being tired, not
bad pain like pulled muscles and broken bones).
You might be surprised at how little time it actually takes to see improvements when you
really work hard. When you think you can't do another, that's when you should push for one more.
Do not rest with your hands on your knees - train yourself to stand up straight and walk around.

As you may have heard by now, we have lost the biggest fundraiser we have - THE STATE
TOURNAMENT (I won't go into details). So, in order to create just a bit of money we will be
losing, we have 2 options. Either do a long, drawn out fundraiser this Spring that will require
EVERYBODY to work (including Seniors), or you can bring $10 and receive 2 posters from this year
with schedules and sponsors. The poster has the Varsity picture on it, but as you recall it was
the 1st semester fundraiser led by Paul Coplen. I am sure the boys do not want to do a long
fundraiser, but any player who opts out of the $10 will need to contribute to their program
somehow, so the choice is up to you. Remember, budgets are undisclosed, despite being public
record. I can tell you it is not enough from the district to support 3 teams. Thank you for
your understanding. Like me, I'm sure you want your son playing with the best and safest
equipment we can get. It's part of what makes playing HS soccer fun.

3/3/09 4:14PM--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 teams. JV's will practice until 5:30PM, and Varsity will practice until 6PM.
Thursday and Friday will be regular practice times.

Players - Keep active during the break to avoid injuries upon return.
Below is a regiment to keep yourself fit for the season and avoid nagging injuries. Coming back

Players and Parents:
Friday, December 19th
JV-Orange will scrimmage the Varsity again from 5:00-7:00PM. If there are conflicts, I
understand, as this is last-minute. Most of the team is available, and I can fill in with
Varsity players as needed.
JV-White will NOT have practice Friday morning. Best Holiday Wishes to the JV-White team
families, and I'll see you on January 2nd at the Stadium (daylight hours are okay there).
Thank you. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Players and Parents,
This is a message from our Ath.Dir:
You may have heard that we have had lighting problems at the athletic complex. All the
poles have been taken down and are being tested and we will not have lights until sometime in
February. You need to prepare to play your home games on your campus until further notice. I
know this is an inconvenience, but that is the way that it is. The tournaments are still on, we
are looking to find an alternate site at this time. If you have any questions, please let me
know.

Please check below for any new info everytime you get a newsflash.

Tryouts: ALL 9th graders be on the track READY TO GO (warmed up and stretched) at 7:15AM. If
you show up at 7:15, you are late! All 10th/11th graders whom I have not contacted re: Varsity
tryouts need to be on the track READY TO GO at 4:30PM. Please take care of yourselves tonight,
regenerate after y'all's weekend games by eating a good dinner and getting lots of sleep.
!!!!!LOOKING FORWARD TO THE START OF A GREAT SEASON!!!!!

Keep checking your email, teacherweb, and warriorsports.org, as changes and
announcements will be posted here. I am going to put the date on schedules
so you know when it has been updated. The JV Bastrop tourney has already
been changed, so please check the schedule again. There may be a conflict
with out District schedule, also, so please make sure you are on top of it.
I will report as soon as I have something.

1. WHAT: MANDATORY MEN'S SOCCER MEETING
WHEN: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2008-------7:30 PM
WHERE: WESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT CENTER

2. TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODIES FOR YOUR FUTURES! Along with all the
activity you are doing, take the time to stretch and hydrate yourselves.
If you plan on playing college, or even surviving a season here at Westwood, better to
learn the proper routines now than later - it just might save you some injuries.

3. The Registration/Testing dates for the ACT and SAT are set. Please plan accordingly.
I have posted in the locker room the dates available to Westwood Soccer players out of
season. Missing our games/practices for SAT/ACT is inexcusable and will be dealt with
as such. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

4. Alumni Game to be held Tuesday, January 6th, at The Palace (RRISD Stadium). JV's will
scrimmage each other at 5:30 PM, and the Alumni Game vs. Varsity will take place at
7:45 PM. Please pass the word on. Alumni need to wear White shirts and socks, as the
Varsity will be Home Team. Hope to see you there!

5. Please check http://www.warriorsports.org/soccer/ to stay up to date with your our
WESTWOOD SOCCER PROGRAM. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me,
and I will get back to you 1st chance I get.

6. Study the game! Check out these clips that demonstrate many of the drills and
combination plays we practice and try to achieve during practice.

7. Please be aware that as of now, EVERYBODY IS EXPECTED TO BE AT PRACTICES AND GAMES
DURING SPRING BREAK. High School sports go through some holidays. Soccer season goes through
Christmas and Spring Break. We will not practice over Christmas this year, but we will start up
on Jan 3rd (Saturday) with scrimmages, and you ARE expected to be there. For Spring Break, we
play Vista Ridge to close out district. As of now, they are expecting to have 3 teams, which
means all will play. Please understand that to no fault of ours (kids
failing/quitting/discipline), they may be down to 2 teams by that time, not something we at
Westwood have had to do b/c our athletes take care of their business on both sides of the fence
(Kudos to all of you for that). After this game, Varsity will be practicing for playoffs
starting the next week, and the other teams will be finished (turn in equipment the next week).
This is the nature of High School soccer. Please do not ever expect a Spring Break. It has
been like this since I was in High School - never got a Spring Break. It remains the same today.
Thanks. I will be answer more questions of this nature at our meeting later this month. Please
spread the word.

8. PLAYERS - please remind your parents that Kick Off night is this Wednesday night
6-8 p.m. in the Student Center. Please make sure that your parents take a look
at their emails before then to find important information regarding Kick Off night.
(An email was sent out by the booster club Sunday afternoon)
