12/11/09     SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR JV/VAR SCRIMMAGE
PARENTS AND PLAYERS (if your phones are on during school hours for some reason...)
The JV/Var Intersquad Scrimmage will be moved up again to 4:30 at the practice fields.  The Warrior Bowl is not ready to be played on just yet, and, although the lights would be fun to play under, I think going from 4:30 - 6 will allow everyone to feel as if they had a "longer" weekend, and I think some of our boys could use it after the past couple of weeks some of them have had.
Thank you for your understanding.  I had told the men this would be a game-time decision, so I hope they passed that on to you.

12/8/09   SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR INTERSQUAD SCRIMMAGES:
Due to the seeding of the Warrior Bowl today (unknown to me until just a while ago), we will conduct our scrimmages at 4:30 - dark Wednesday.  This is for the 9th/JV scrimmage.  It is a wider field, but it is about 5 yards shorter.  Parents are still welcome to attend, but should probably bring a chair.  You can sit between the tennis courts on the concrete and look down a bit at the field - just an idea to avoid the sludge.
Afterwards, we will adjourn to the inside for our Upper Ninety Night.  ALL PARENTS AND PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO BE AT THE MEETING.  I will go over last minute information, as well as some some old reminders.
Thanks to all, and welcome to the 2010 Soccer Season.

11/29/09   2:10 PM
It's that time again!  Our first week of soccer officially starts up Monday.
ALL 9TH GRADERS: TRACK, 7:00AM.  Bring cleats and shinguards as well.

ALL 10-12TH GRADERS:       ******CHANGE IN TRYOUT PLAN*****
AFTER SOME BACK-AND-FORTH THOUGHT, DUE TO THE LARGE # OF 9TH GRADERS, AND DUE TO MOST OF YOU HAVING THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENTS, ALL 10TH-12TH GRADERS NEED TO BE ON THE PRACTICE FIELDS WARM BY 4:30 PM. THIS GROUP WILL ALL RUN THE TRACK TUESDAY MORNING.  I THINK THAT THE EXTRA DAY OF REST WILL HELP PREVENT MUSCLE STRAINS RUNNING THE MILES.  I ALSO THINK THE WAY NUMBERS WORK, IT JUST MAKES MORE SENSE.

Hope everyone has a good 5-day weekend.  Get a couple of runs in over the break, as showing up to run cold-TURKEY will be a bad experience.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10/2/09   9:00 AM
REPORT CARDS: I need to see all report cards on Monday in Soccer Class.  This is not optional.  Failure to produce your report card will yield the same result as failing 8 classes.  Please bring it with you.

MONEY FOR CLASS KITS: All money is due Monday.  I have stressed before, and I'll stress again, that if financial difficulties are keeping you from being able to pay, I understand, but you should have already spoken to me.  It stays confidential, and it keeps you from having to perform extra conditioning as a punishment for not taking care of your responsibility.

Thank you.
Have a good weekend, and if you have game(s), I hope to hear of how you won on Monday.

9/23/09   2:16 PM
Parents: I finally shook the dummy-cobwebs off my brain and have this information for you.
PLEASE MAKE ANY CHECKS FOR CLASS UNIFORMS PAYABLE TO:
                                       TO:    WESTWOOD SOCCER BOOSTER CLUB
                                    FOR:     MEN'S SOCCER CLASS UNIFORM
Booster Club will deposit the money into our Activity Fund, and the money will be dispersed from there, and I have to practically handle no money in this manner.  That is why I like it.
Thank you for your understanding (although even I am not sure why I made this so hard).
Let's TRY to have the money in by Friday.
If you need assistance in paying for the equipment (free/reduced lunch, struggling econimically), please come talk to me in private or call me, and we can work something out.  I do not ever want money to be an issue in making someone feel like they can't/don't belong in this program!

9/4/09 2:00 PM.
WEBSITE WITH MOVEMENTS/EXERCISES AND VIDEOS OF THEM
Take a look at the website links below.  These are the minimum I would like for you to explore and watch the videos of.  Each video is approx 1 minute and demonstrates the workout/movement required.  Your job is to mimic this movement.  Use a mirror if you have trouble coordinating your body so that you can see EXACTLY what your form looks like compared to the video.

8/26/09
Welcome to the Westwood Men's Soccer Class.  This Newsflash tool will serve to get word out with the click of a mouse to everybody in the program, players and parents.  Both player and parent should have subscribed to this (if both have an email address).  Two email addresses are better than one (one stops working, 2 people getting info in case 1 person doesn't check, etc).

CLASS:
- Physicals should be in, and the trainers should have you cleared.  There are still players not cleared, and you will be removed if it is not done by the time class starts tomorrow.  THESE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE SCHOOL STARTED.  I will not be lenient Thursday.
- Signature sheets should be in to me by Thursday.  Both player and parent should have read and signed understanding of the class procedures/expectations/consequences.  Failure to turn this in by tomorrow will result in removal from class.
THIS IS NOT A CORE CLASS - YOU ELECTED TO BE HERE.  IT IS A PRIVILEGE FOR THOSE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO HANDLE IT.  I WILL NOT LOWER MY EXPECTATIONS, AND NONE OF YOU SHOULD EITHER.
- CLASS EQUIPMENT: (See rules)  We will be ordering class uniforms (socks, shorts, shirts).  Talk with your kids to make sure you are in the know.  It will run at least $47 depending on the quantity they ordered - min requirements 2 of each.  Clothes are to be taken home every FRIDAY to be washed - NO EXCEPTIONS.  As I am taking orders and working out the details, players are required to bring their own clothing.  ALWAYS HAVE WORKOUT CLOTHES.  SHOWERING IS NOT AN OPTION; IT IS MANDATORY.  Get in and out AQuicklyAP.  Soap is provided.

I WILL BE GIVING SOCCER EDUCATION; PLAYERS SHOULD BE LEARNING.  TEAMS ARE MORE OR LESS FORMED DURING CLASS TIME WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THOSE WHO COME TO TRYOUTS WHO ARE NOT IN CLASS.  BEING IN CLASS DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A SPOT ON A TEAM.  ALONG WITH THAT, SENIORITY DOES NOT ENSURE YOU ANYTHING, EITHER.  THE BEST PLAYERS FOR THE SYSTEM I FEEL WE HAVE THE PLAYERS FOR WILL PLAY.  IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE TOP 13 OR 14 FOR YOUR TEAM, PLAYING TIME MAY BE LIMITED.
MORAL: WORK HARD DURING CLASS TIME.  SHOW ME SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU BETTER THAN THE OTHER GUY COMPETING FOR THE SAME SPOT.
