Mrs. Harris’s English Class
Policies
Welcome! I am excited to have you in my class. I am looking forward to a wonderful year. You will be writing numerous essays this year and reading short stories, novels, and poetry. You will have homework, which will support the concepts and skills learned in class.
Important Items Concerning My Class
Every week you will receive a new set of spelling words. Each Thursday/Friday you will have a spelling test over these new words. You can earn extra credit points on the tests for writing the words ten times each or completing a puzzle. The extra credit must be given to me at the time of the test.
Late daily work will NOT be accepted. If you fail to turn in a daily assignment, the grade is a zero. (Absent work is not late work.)
If you do not turn a major assignment (an essay or a project) into me on the day it is due, points will be deducted from it. If an individual turns late work into me, the following policy will apply:
one day late highest grade 89,
two days late highest grade 84.
If a student fails to turn in the assignment on the second day it is late, the grade is a zero. This is the English department policy.
You must keep an organized three-ring binder. You will receive a grade for bringing their binder and keeping it organized.
You will receive a participation grade every six weeks, which will be based on your attendance, level of engagement in the class, listening skills, behavior, and preparation, which will include maintaining an organized three-ring binder.
Each day you will begin the class with a warm-up. I check these warm-ups periodically throughout the six weeks. You will receive at least one grade a six weeks for your warm-ups.
You are required to use your planners. Assignments and tests must be written in your planners. You will receive grades based on this task.
My tutorials are on the following days:
Monday 3:05-3:45, and
Wednesday 7:25-7:50.
