I was raised in Illinois in a family of ten children, 5 girls and 5
boys. My father was superintendent of schools and my mother, well, she had
her hands full! When my father retired, he moved what was left of the
family, my three younger sisters and myself, to Florida where I graduated
from high school and met my husband, Alan. We were married in 1972.
We came to Texas in 1978 due to a job transfer. We lived in Beaumont
for 20 years. I received my undergraduate degree there from Lamar
University in December of 1985 and a few years later received my master's
degree. Since then I have taught high school resource math, middle school
regular math, and 1st through 3rd grade levels in elementary school. We
moved to Mansfield in 1998, again due to a job transfer. I have been at
Willie Brown since its doors first opened, teaching 3rd grade the whole
time, and I am loving it!
My husband is a field sales support representative with
AmerisourceBergen. We have a son Danny, 33, who worked this past summer
giving glacier tours in Alaska. He will be back in the lower 48 this fall
and winter and will probably return to Alaska next spring. Our daughter
Cara, 28, and her husband live in Houston. She is working on her doctorate
at Rice University in chemistry. My mother and her pet cockatiel Buddy are
also a part of our household.
When I'm not teaching or doing schoolwork, I enjoy running, reading,
cooking, fiddling, gardening, and watching television (especially Regis and
Kelly [Yay for the DVR!], Food TV, HGTV, and American Idol). I had a great
time coaching and running with our Willie Brown Running Eagles at the
Cowtown Kids' 5K last year. Y'all did a great job! I am currently training
for the San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon which will take place in November.
Because learning and living go hand in hand, my mission is to develop
independent life-long learners -- young people who think critically, ask
questions, listen carefully, encourage and respect one another, and approach
tasks with a "Can do!" attitude. To achieve this I will work to provide
appropriate challenge in a classroom atmosphere that stimulates minds and
fosters success.
