WELLNESS CLASS- Student Information
Welcome to fun, fitness and fitness activities at Windsong
Intermediate. You play an important part in making Windsong an
outstanding school. I hope you are ready to do your very best, enjoy the
activities I have planned for you and use the knowledge I share with you
in other areas of your life.
Wellness is a condition of good physical, emotional and social
well-being, brought on by making good choices. These three parts of
wellness are incorporated into the Wellness class at Windsong
Intermediate. My goal is to educate, motivate, and activate you in a
program that will help you build a healthier body, stronger mind, and
greater self-awareness, throughout your life. I challenge you to set
goals to improve your own wellness, so you may be "FIT FOR LIFE".
You will attend a 45 minute class, in the gym, every other school day.
This class time is made up 15 minutes of fitness activities ( warm up,
dynamic stretching, static stretching, strength work, endurance running,
cool-down walk and water break) and 25 - 30 minutes of sports and
physical activities (skills improvement, lead-up games, contests, class
tournaments, fitness testing and written activities).
You will participate in a variety of individual, dual and team sports
throughout the year. Some of the modified physical activities offered at
Windsong are: flag football, volleyball, whiffleball, basketball, floor
hockey, soccer, mini tennis, track and field, jump rope, tumbling and
stunts. Be ready to adjust to the rules of each activitiy, so that all
students can enjoy playing and having fun!!
To create a POSITIVE learning envciroment, each student is expected
to cooperate and show respect . Wellness class rules and
consequences are listed below. You will receive a CONDUCT grade
and a WELLNESS grade.

2. A successful student will show respect!
** They will be kind and not distract or disrupt others!
3. A successful student will show self-control!
** They will keep their hands and feet to themselves!
4. A sucessful student will be responsible!

WELLNESS CONDUCT GRADE SCALE: E = 0 - 3 marks
S = 4 - 6 marks N = 7 or more marks
** The conduct mark you earn, each 9 weeks, is based on the
choices you make in Wellness class.
** A conduct mark is given for not following the behavior expectations.
These marks determine your conduct grade.
POSITIVE CONSEQUENCES for following CLASS RULES
* Positive actions get positive reactions!!
1. Happy Teachers!
2. Self-satisfaction of knowing that you made good choices!
3. Participate in class activities, game day on Friday, field day....
4. Verbal praise, rewards, notes homes.....
NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES for not following CLASS RULES
*Negative actions get negative reactions!
1. 1st time / each student / each day : conduct mark is given
2. 2nd time / each student / each day : Conduct mark and TIME OUT
activities, at the FITNESS STATION, for the remainder of the class.
**For TIME OUT the student is assigned a fitness station, away from
the class activity, where they do an individual work out.
3. 4th conduct mark in a 9 week period : A progress Report is filled
out, taken home by the student and returned with a parent signature.
The student will participate in the individual work out / fitness station
until the signed progress report is returned.
4. Zero Tolerance : If a student has regular difficulty following the
behavior expectations, they will be sent to TIME OUT after the first
conduct mark is given, in a class period. Zero tolerance will last a nine
week period.
5. Severe Actions: Office referral
**The work out list at the fitness station is also used for endurance
make up and for those students not earning the game day Friday activity.
A conduct mark is not given when the student is working out on their
own for these reasons.
