Matter Test Review

 

1. buoyancy - ability of matter to float in a liquid or  gas

2. matter - anything that takes up space and has mass 

3. gas - matter that has no definite volume and no definite shape

4. volume - amount of space matter takes up

5. liquid - matter that has a definite volume and takes the shape of its container

6. solid - matter that has a definite shape and volume

7. density - a measure of how tightly packed particles are in an object

8. particles – the small bits that make up matter

 

An object that is more dense than its surroundings will sink.

An object that is less dense than its surroundings will float.

 

Adding heat makes the particles in matter move faster.

Removing heat (making things colder) makes the particles in matter move slower.
