HORIZONTAL-
lines that go from side to side
VERTICAL-
lines that go up and down
LATITUDE
LINES-
lines that run east to west and never meet; measure north to south

southern boundary for the direct rays of the sun
TROPIC OF

northern boundary for the direct rays of the sun
