About The Teacher
Danyah Arafat-Johnson is the DMS theatre arts director and Electives/Fine Arts department chair. She holds B.A.s in English and Theatre Arts from Texas A&M University, an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the University of North Texas, and received her administrative certification from the University of Texas-Arlington. Mrs."A-J" has taught theatre for fifteen years, and has worked professionally as an actress, costume and makeup designer for the Fort Worth Theatre, ONSTAGE, Hip Pocket Theatre, Circle Theatre, Theatre Arlington, StageCenter in Bryan, Houston Grand Opera, and has prior acting training with Houston's Alley Theatre and with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company. She is a former member of the Live Theatre League of Tarrant County and STAGE in Dallas.Mrs. Arafat-Johnson has memberships in the Texas Educational Theatre Association, the national Educational Theatre Association, Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented, Texas Middle School Association, and United Educators Association. She is DMS' Electives/Fine Arts department chair. Mrs. Arafat-Johnson is married to DMS Journalism teacher Heath Johnson. They have two boys: Clay, a 7th grader at Dawson Middle and Brooks, a 4th grader at Old Union Elementary. The entire family are proud to be Carroll Dragons!

Mission
The goals of the DMS and CISD theatre arts programs are to increase students' understanding of self and others and develop clear ideas about the world through a variety of theatrical experiences. Students will have the opportunity to communicate in a dramatic form, make artistic choices, solve problems, build positive self-concepts, and relate interpersonally.
