What is the grading policy for Spanish?
This grading policy is aligned directly with Spanish I at Carroll
High
School. As there are no exceptions to this policy, please read
carefully:
25% - DAILY WORK(homework, mini-quizzes)
Homework is given daily and is expected to be completed by the
next class. Mini-quizzes are frequent (4-5 week) and are given
as
a check for mastery of the homework. Late work is not accepted.
Students
without 100% COMPLETED homework will sign the "ZERO"
book in class. Students
MAY NOT return to their locker to retrieve homework.
25% - QUIZZES
Normally, there are 4-8 quizzes per six weeks, including
spelling quizzes
and listening quizzes. There are no QUIZ retakes!
50% - TESTS
Normally two major tests will be given each six weeks. There
are NO test
retakes!
*Students will also give presentations and be given project
assignments.
These usually count as TEST grades, but are sometimes QUIZ
grades. Projects
and presentations cannot be made-up or retaken.
Not only is late work not accepted, no quiz/test retakes or
curving will be
given. Academic Dishonesty will result in an automatic
"0" in accordance
with the CISD Code of Conduct.
How are pesos earned and what are they used for?
Students can earn pesos in a variety of ways, mainly while
participating in
class during games or activities and sometimes when returning a
signed form
or certain document or assignment on time, etc. ALSO--Students
start out with pesos
every 6 weeks. If they speak ENGLISH in class, they have to pay
up! Students
must hang on to their pesos for the Peso Spending Day at the end
of each
semester (2 total for the year). The more dough you have, the
more stuff you
get!
Why study Spanish?
It's the 3rd most commonly spoken language in the world (over 340
million
speakers!); it's the 2nd most spoken language in the US!
Studying Spanish helps:
--improve grammar skills!
--expand career opportunites!
--enjoy cultural experiences abroad (and sometimes at home)!
And don't forget... it's really fun!
Info about summer Spanish II assignments

What is the late policy?
In accordance with the High School Foreign Language Policy, there
will be NO
late work accepted in Spanish class. Students must arrive on time
to class
with all assignments and supplies, as they are not allowed to go
back to
their lockers during class time.
What's a WAVA?
WAVA= writing, audio, video activities (located in the back
section of the
Practice WB, behind the divider)

Can I retake Spanish 1 when I get to high school?
No! There are no course retakes allowed so please keep up with
your studies!
The grade earned in this class goes on your permanent high school
record and
is included in your GPA!
Absent Policy
Students receive one school day for everyday they miss to make up
work.
(This does not include weekend days.) Homework, quizzes, tests
and mini-
quizzes previously announced/assigned are expected to be
completed upon
returning to class. Failure to turn in homework or make-up
assessments will
result in a 0 for the grade. It is the STUDENT's responsibility
to keep up
with all make-up work.
