COURSE DESCRIPTION:&nbsp; French II&nbsp;Pre-AP prepares students for the AP French Language and Culture&nbsp;course. They will use the three mode of communication (Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational) defined in the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century. Students will learn language structures in context and start to use them to convey meaning while continuing adding new&nbsp;grammar structures&nbsp;and vocabulary. Students will be exposed to some of the richness and diversity of French culture around the world through authentic materials such as videos, French magazines&nbsp;and&nbsp;websites.

The student is responsible for all material presented in class and all assignments.&nbsp; Because the class builds upon and practices new concepts and vocabulary every day, attendance is very important.&nbsp; Students are responsible for all make up work and for attending tutorials when classes are missed.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

Lessons are subject to change depending on students&#8217; need and/or progress.&nbsp; There will be frequent announced and unannounced quizzes (oral and written).<o:p></o:p>
 
RETEACH/RETAKE:<div style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; "><div style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">A student who receives a grade lower than a 70% on an&nbsp;assignment&nbsp;or&nbsp;examination&nbsp;may elect to redo the material covered on the original assignment or examination&nbsp;once&nbsp;for a maximum grade of 70%. Assignments The student must redo the failed assignment (or do an equivalent assignment as determined by the teacher), and turn it in at the beginning of the next scheduled class after the failing grade has been communicated to the student. Tutoring is offered is necessary. Tests and Quizzes If a student earns a score lower than 70% on the original test/quiz, the student may retake the test/quiz up to five school days after the original grade was communicated to the student. Tutoring is required before retaking the test or quiz. Academic Integrity Cheating takes many forms. Any attempt to receive credit for work that the student has not done, or has not done with an honest attempt to understand the concepts involved, is cheating. This applies to individual work and also to group assignments. If a student is caught cheating, a referral will be written and a parent contacted. If the cheating involves another subject, the appropriate teacher will be contacted, a referral given, and parent contacted. All students involved will be given a zero on the assignment/test that the student cheated on. Both the student copying work and the individual giving assistance (if complicit) will receive zeros. Academic integrity is an important value in the LOTE department and in our school. Make-ups due to absences Please refer to the Student Code of Conduct and course syllabi for information about make-up work.</div></div> &nbsp;

CLASS PARTICIPATION:&nbsp; Positive, task-oriented, oral&nbsp;participation is mandatory. The participation grade is a subjective grade based on student performance.

CLASSROOM RULES:<o:p></o:p>
&#183;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Students are expected to be in their assigned seats before the bell rings and to begin working on the first activity.<o:p></o:p>
&#183;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Students are expected to bring books and all materials to class every day.<o:p></o:p>
&#183;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Students are expected to treat each other as well as the teacher with respect.<o:p></o:p>
&#183;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Food and especially gum are absolutely prohibited in the classroom. <o:p></o:p>
SUPPLIES: Students are expected to bring these materials to class each day:
- A worbook. This exercise book is free, and each student will put his/her name on it. If the student loose his/her workbook he/she will be charged for the replacement copy. (cost $10)
- A notebook to start writing essays and to take notes. This notebook will help student to review before a quiz or a test.
- A binder to help student organize his/her work. &nbsp;
