When a student is absent how much time does he/she have to complete the work?

A packet of the missed work will be ready by the end of the missed school
day. Parents or someone else can pick up the packet that day. Students
are usually given the same number of days missed to complete the school
work. Obviously, special situations will be considered.

Can a student get extra credit?

Extra credit is not usually given. However, many times students are given an
opportunity to make corrections on an assignment. If the corrections are
correct, then extra points may be added to that grade.

Can I meet with the teacher?

Absolutely. I am available during my conference period, or parents may call
to set up a conference at more convenient time for them. If you leave a
phone number, I will call you back. Parent/Teacher communication is a vital
part of student success and achievement. Call the school at (361)594-3251 or
E-mail me at kalichj@shinerisd.net.

May I bring treats for my child's birthday?

Birthdays are special occasions. If your child wishes, he/she may bring
treats for the class. These will be served during last period. If
convenient, please send a note a day or two in advance, so we can give you
an exact number of students. Please do not send party invitations to school
unless the entire class has been invited. Although it may seem convenient
to distribute invitations this way, it can result in hurt feelings for those
not invited.

Do I need to send a note when my child is absent?

On the day your child returns to school, please, send a brief note
explaining the reason for the absence. If your child has been taken to the
doctor, a doctor's note is sufficient.
