About the Teacher

Greetings! I am Mrs. Kalich, the fifth grade language arts and social
studies teacher at Shiner Elementary School. My husband, Tim, and two
daughters, Rachel and Faith, are my family. They provide my motivation and
support.
My kids get most of my attention. They are everything to me, they
keep me grounded, and they have inspired me to want to teach. I love
children, and I want to be around them. Cooking, walking, and spending time
with family take up any extra time that I might have. In less hectic times,
I enjoy sewing, bike riding, reading, and watching TV. Living in such a
small town makes life quite simple. Teaching allows me to be a life long
learner.
I graduated with my MA in elementary education from the University
of Phoenix online campus in 2004. I received my BA in Journalism/Public
Relations from Southwest Texas State University (recently renamed Texas
University) in San Marcos, Texas. This is my fifth year in the teaching
profession. I love teaching fifth graders! My Texas certification allows me
to teach EC-8th grade self-contained classes. I am thrilled to be teaching
your children this year!

Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.

Misson For The Class:

School should be a dynamic experience filled with fun, laughter,
learning, thinking, problem solving, technology, basics, life skills,
morals, respect, surprises, and hard work. Efforts will focus on developing
a child-centered approach full of the basics with active individual and
group experiences in an atmosphere saturated with love, warmth, and care.
Children need cognition. Knowledge opens doors. Children need a
place to go where they can relax, learn, and feel comfortable. School should
be that place. Creating a classroom environment conducive to learning with
attention given to the three domains of learning--cognitive (mind),
psychomotor (body), and affective (soul) is a top priority.
All students need to understand how capable they are. Children
should believe in themselves and realize that the sky truly is the limit!
Working as a partner with parents, the community, and other faculty
members will enable me along with them to work toward the common goal of
providing students with an exceptional preparation for life—education.
