My E-Mail: jphinney@graniteschools.org and is also linked through the
internet when you check your students’ grades. PT Conferences come so early
that grades are not yet established, so parental checks on grade updates is
crucial for student success and E-mail will be the quickest form of
communication for us.
My web page will give you our assignments and you can connect to it through
the Evergreen Home Page www.graniteschools.org/jr/evergreen/ or through the
Teacher Web site. You can go to www.teacherweb.com and follow the prompts.
What I Need: 1. A notebook. Save EVERTHING!! Get a notebook that has an
envelope section to save absolutely everything!!! Notebooks are turned in a
few times per quarter and are important to your grade!!!
2. Cook at home. Forms are optional, but parents must
sign a note or send an e-mail verification. No samples needed!!!
3. Pay the $10 fee. This fee will be collected about the 1st
of October once we have our new fee program in place.
State Test: which all students are required to take at the end of the
semester, is very important. To prepare, we will be frequently reviewing
and quizzing the critical information. If your student doesn't pass the
quizzes and tests, they will be required to make them up. If time can't be
found during class, they should come into our after school tutoring sessions
to make them up.
HOMECOOKING: This is usually the only homework. Home-cooking is 10% of the
grade, so no A’s without cooking at home. Recipes made during class may be
made at home, as well as other similar products.
The block schedule makes it imperative for us to maximize our class time.
Attendance on this block schedule is absolutely critical. If your student
misses one day, they are actually missing 2 periods which makes catching up
even more difficult.
Assignment Guidelines: Attendance is a priority as class activities can't
be duplicated at home and therefore can't really be made up if you miss
them. Students are strongly encouraged to turn work in on time. If they are
sick, they will have one day for each day missed due to illness. LATE WORK
receives half credit or less depending on how late it is.
Grades are earned by accumulating points from self-starters, daily
assignments, quizzes, team activities, class participation, daily planners,
learning logs and of course, TESTS!! Tests and quizzes are 35% of the total
grade, 55% comes from the daily assignments, activities and the daily
learning log notebook. The final 10% is from home-cooking. The breakdown
for grades: 100 - 90 are A's, 89 - 80 are B's, 79 - 70 are C's, 69 - 60 are
D's, and below 60% are F's. In 2nd and 6th periods, D.E.A.R time, our
school wide literacy program, is attached. For those periods, the D.E.A.R.
log and participation are included.
Citizenship credit is required from ninth grade for graduation in Granite
District. All students are responsible for appropriate classroom behavior
and prompt, consistent attendance. I follow the district policy which
states:
1. Students will be required to earn a 2.0 cumulative CPA (Citizenship
Point Average) on a 4.0 point scale in grades 9-12.
2. On the 4th tardy, the student will not receive a grade higher than
a 1.
3. Sluffing ONCE will result in a grade no higher than a 1.
4. Students may receive a 1 or 0 for any inappropriate classroom
behavior and excessive absences as well as tardies.
Class Room Expectations
Granite School District embraces the Community of Caring
program and supports their values -- Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Trust
and Family. I use them as the standard of behavior in our classroom.
You may not cause a problem for yourself or others. If you do, YOU are
responsible for solving it in an acceptable way to all parties involved.
Remember to indicate you and your parent have read this disclosure by
e-mailing your notification to Mrs. Phinney by Aug. 29th. Half credit will
be given after that date
