Disclaimer:

ALL QUICK REFERENCE BRAILLE GUIDES ON THIS SITE (BRAILLE RULES/CHARTS) HAVE
NOT BEEN CHANGED TO INCLUDE THE NEW BANA UPDATES - USE THE QUICK REFERENCE

============================================================================

The Quick Reference Braille Guide and Braille and Nemeth Charts were written
and designed as tools for the Braille Student or Braille Transcribers and
Translators that are already familiar with Braille. These tools
serve as quick memory joggers and include examples for Braille rules
and symbols.

The Quick Reference Braille Guide is also available in Braille. For a copy
of this Guide in Braille, please contact Charlotte W. Ovard by clicking on
the E-mail icon in the "Home" section (upper right hand corner)of this site
or by calling or writing using the contact information in the "Contact Me"
section of this site.) Make sure you mention "Braille" on the subject line
so that your message is not considered as Junk Mail.

The Quick Reference Braille Guide and Braille and Nemeth Charts can be
viewed, accessed, and printed by going to the Braille Rules/Charts Icon and
following the link. The Quick Reference Braille Guide can be viewed using
Adobe Acrobat Reader. If Adobe Acrobat Reader comes up with a blank page,
try hitting your Reload or Refresh button.

If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader you can download it for free. Go to
cnet.com, choose downloads, on the Search line, type in: Adobe Acrobat
Reader, and once the search results appear, choose one of the Adobe Acrobat
Reader freeware programs to download, then follow the instructions.

Two new Braille Charts have been added to Braille Rules/Charts and are Word
Documents:
-- Braille Contractions Chart with Slate Cells
-- Letters, Numbers, and Signs with Slate Cells

Hopefully, these charts will be useful for slate users. There may be
CONFUSION as to how to read the Slate Cell Charts. I recommend that you
print the charts and chose which "Backwards" column works best for your
needs. I would scribble out the column that you least like so that the
chart will not get confusing to you.

The column labeled Backwards - Right to Left will be useful if you want to
read the chart the way the braille will look BACKWARDS WHEN the braille is
finished. Since slate users produce backward braille, the cells on the
chart must be read from Right to Left.

The column labeled Backwards - Left to Right will be useful if you want to
read the chart the way you normally read (left to right) AS YOU PRODUCE THE
BACKWARD BRAILLE. The Left to Right chart is easier understood if you read,
think, or produce each cell individually as you read from left to right and
produce the backward braille right to left.

Good luck with your Braille Production!
