Classroom Expectations:
1. Follow directions the first time.
2. Be in your seat prepared to work before the bell.
3. Receive teacher permission to talk or leave seat.
4. Eliminate ridicule, sarcasm, snickering, and putdowns.
5. Do not talk back or argue with the teacher.
Chronic or serious offenses will result in a phone call to parents, ASD, parent teacher conference, and/or referral to administration. Students have one week to serve their ASD or else a 2nd ASD will be given.
Supplies:
Two notebooks – One notebook designated for a math journal only. The second notebook is for assignments and can be combined with other classes.
Pencils – Any non-colored pencil is fine. A 7mm mechanical pencil is recommended. Work done in pen will not be accepted.
Eraser – This is a must in math.
Calculator – Buying a calculator for this class is not recommended for most students. However, if you wish to buy a calculator we use the TI-73 in class. The TI-73 is not sold in stores but I can order them for you. Any Texas Instrument graphing calculator is sufficient.
Pencil sharpener – Most students do not like using the classroom pencil sharpener.
Grading:
Weight of Grading: Grading Scale:
Quizzes/Tests 60% 93-100 A 77-80 C+
Assignments 30% 90-93 A- 73-77 C
Participation/Journal 10% 87-90 B+ 70-73 C-
83-87 B 67-70 D+
80-83 B- 60-67 D
Either a quiz or test will be given on almost every Thursday. Usually there will be an opportunity for all students to make up points missed on the quizzes and tests. Homework is given almost daily and due the next day unless otherwise stated. All homework from the textbook needs all instructions and problems written out. Work needs to be shown and complete in all homework, quizzes, tests, etc.
Codes: To clarify in the "Gradebook" program why a student received a particular grade for an assignment, a decimal number used as a code will be added to the score. The codes are as follows: 0 = a filler so the codes do not add up enough to alter a grade, 1 = incomplete, 2 = did not follow directions, 3 = did not write out problems, 4 = did not show work, 5 = late (unexcused), 6 = late (grace day), 7 = completed test corrections, 9 = ex-ceptional work. I.e. a score of 3.015 means the assignment was incomplete and late.
Late Work: No more than half the points will be awarded for late work. In the event one or more days absent, the due date is extended by the number of days of being absent. For extended absences contact Mr. Brown to work out an acceptable plan for everyone.
Grace Day: Every student is given one grace day on two assignments for each quarter. This means if a student is unable to complete an assignment when it is due he or she can turn in the assignment one day late for full credit. Just write “grace day” on the top of the assignment and turn it into the late work.
Tutoring is available daily from 7:00 to 7:30 Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs mornings.
Items in the disclosure may change throughout the year without notice. An update version will always be available in hard copy upon request, on my website, and posted in the classroom.
