Academic Policy
1. Students will be graded on a point system. Points on assignments, labs,
tests and notebooks will be added up and the high score in the class will
determine the grade breakdown for that class.
90%-100% = A
80% -90% = B
70% -80% = C
60% -70% = D
Below 60% = F
A. Each class will be graded separately.
B. Grades will be calculated weekly and posted by student number at the
back of the classroom. By looking at their posted grades, students
should know on a daily basis what grade they are earning, and if they
have any missing assignments. This eliminates any surprises at report
card time.
C. Grades can be accessed any time through the Internet at the Granite
District web site, www.granite.k12.ut.us
2. Late assignments: LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED.
3. Good attendance is important. If a student misses a class, it is the
responsibility of the student to check with me to find out what assignment
was missed, and have it made up and turned in within 3 days after returning
to school.
4. Homework: Students are expected to finish at home any work not completed
in class that day. I suggest students get into the habit of studying the
work we are doing in class for 20 minutes at least 3 times per week.
Students must also study at home for tests.
5. Students are expected to come to class prepared every day. Being prepared
means bringing a pencil or pen, textbook, agenda, and Science Notebook to
class.
6. Agendas: Every Monday we will fill out our agendas for the week, listing
days that assignments are due, when labs will be done, and when tests will be
given. Students should have their agendas with them every day, and then will
know exactly when assignments are due and when tests are scheduled. Parents
can refer to their son's or daughter's agenda at any time to see what is
being
done in class. The weekly schedule will stay on the board all week.
7. Science Notebooks: Each student is required to have a 1" 3 ring binder.
The binder should contain some lined paper for taking notes in class. This
will be their Science Notebook. In this notebook students will keep the notes
taken in class, all assignments, labs, tests and handouts for the entire
quarter. Notebooks will be handed in at the end of each quarter and will be
worth 50 points.
8. Science fees: The Science fee is $10.00 this year and needs to be paid to
Mrs. Quinn in the main office.
9. Correcting student work: I will occasionally have students in the class
correct the work of other students. This practice has an important
educational purpose in that it allows students to review the important
material in assignments and lab work, and to consider problem solving that may
be different than their own. It also allows for immediate feedback on work
that has been done.
Citizenship Policy
1. Wasatch Junior High School uses a scale of 0 to 4 to grade citizenship
(4=H, O=U). A student must maintain a 2.0 citizenship grade to graduate from
high school. Please refer to the Wasatch Citizenship handout or the section
on
Citizenship in the school agenda planner.
2. Wasatch Junior High Tardy Policy :
3 tardies = "2" in citizenship
4 tardies = "1" in citizenship
5 tardies = "0" in citizenship
Please refer to the Wasatch Citizenship handout or the section on
Citizenship in the school agenda planner.
3. Cheating: Cheating shows a profound lack of respect for both teacher and
self. Cheating will not be tolerated. Students are given the opportunity to
work together on labs and on some classroom assignments; however direct
copying of any work will be considered cheating. The consequences for
cheating are a O on the work involved and a 0 in citizenship for that Quarter.
4. Cell Phones: Wasatch has a new policy on cell phones this year. Cell
phones are not allowed in class will be taken on the 1st offense and given to
the administration.
