About The Teacher
My career at Wasatch began in Fall, 2003. I look forward to working with you andyour students for another year in our beautiful new school. We are very fortunate. Yes, I am teaching your middle schooler by choice and must admit that this age group is fascinating and very energetic! It has been an interesting and enlightening experience to observe junior high students and to help prepare them for the realities of high school as they make the transition from elementary to junior high school. I am very lucky to be working with such wonderful colleagues who are dedicated to giving all of our students at Wasatch an excellent science education. I have an M.S. in Biology from USU in Logan, Ut. Before coming to Wasatch, I taught high school science and computer classes for 9 years. Classes taught include every 'flavor' of biology and chemistry from Advanced Placement to general classes. I have participated in the Master Teacher of Genetic Sciences program through the Genetic Science Learning Center at the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics at the University of Utah. Through this program Utah teachers have written and designed web based curriculum and assessments for grades 7-12. Your student will be accessing this award winning site for part of their 7th grade science curriculum. This site has been expanded to include other areas besides genetics and biotechnology. I have an avid interest in technology and completed the Granite District ETC teaching with technology program. I have also completed the requirements at the University of Utah for an endorsement in technology integration. Because of the ETC program, we have a 21 wireless laptop computer lab and a color laser printer, in my classroom. Students will use this technology to prepare assignments, access web based curricula, and complete projects. We live so close to the beautiful Wasatch-Cache National Forest which provides a spectacular outdoor classroom and playground for all of us. I have participated in projects and volunteer for the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation. I hope to include some of what I have gained from those experiences into your student's classroom experience and encourage them to be more thoughtful about the wonderful and important outdoor resources we enjoy and use along the Wasatch Front.
Mission Label:
Mission
Students will gain competency in the Utah state science core curriculum using a variety of resources. Students will have a more in-depth appreciation of science and how it impacts their lives through hands-on experiences and investigations of current knowledge. Textbooks are only one of several resources used in the course. Students will have the opportunity to gain as much knowledge as they wish and need not be limited in their educational experiences. There are many resources for the sciences available on the internet. I enjoy working with students and integrating technology into the curriculum. Students will frequently be working on assignments that are web based and incorporate sites provided by the USOE (Utah State Office of Education), UEN (Utah Education Network), and many others. Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in their student's learning.
