Syllabus: Art Foundations 2

Week 7

10/6 - 10/10

Monday - Thursday: Students should work outside to finish their acrylic landscapes. They will need to bring a picture of a famouse non-objective painting from the last half of the 20th century. They will copy this painting in order to practice color matching skills. the painting should have mostly hard edges and a variety of arbitrary and natural colors. We will begin working on oils in about two weeks.

Friday - Hand in landscape (tentative)

Art History - The Baroque in France - later 1600s.

Week 8

10/13 - 10/15

Students should be starting their color matching paintings. If they haven't brought a picture from home, they will need to bring one. If a color printer is not available, they can go to Barnes and Noble or other bookstore and find a work from one of the many art magazines from which to work. We will continue to work on the landscapes as weather permits.

Thursday, Friday - No School.

Term 2

Week 1

Students will be begin working with oils. It is very important that students wear protective smocks from the time they enter until they leave the classroom. Our first assignment will be a monochromatic painting using a subtractive method wiping back the paint to reveal light shapes. This will be due tentatively on Friday, November 14th.

Week 2
