Syllabus: Advanced Art Foundations
Advanced Foundations 8th Grade Art Week 4 9/22 – 9/23 Monday through Thursday: We will be working on an 11 x 14 Charcoal Drawing. The Subject Matter is chosen by the student from their image portfolio. Students will learn the subtractive technique for charcoal (Toning the paper with charcoal and then using an eraser as a drawing and shading tool), and will be reviewing light logic (what happens to light when it hits an object) learned in seventh grade. Friday: No School Charcoal Drawings will be due on Monday, Sept. 29th. Week 5
Students spent the week testing in first period.
Week 6 9/29 - 10/4
Monday - Thursday: We Finished up the charcoal Drawings. White Charcoal on Black Paper: Some students began working on a drawing done with white charcoal on black paper. They are to focus on the shapes created by light hitting the objects and/or people. It will become a high contrast drawing with the shadows all dissappearing into the black paper. They will learn to see light shapes, create two different values in the light (High light and low light) and create hard and soft edges for more depth. White charcoal drawing will be due at the end of week 7.
Friday: Hand in Charcoal Drawing (50pts.) Art History: The Baroque in Italy, c. 1600.
Week 7 10/6 - 10/10
Monday - Wednesday - Students should finish the White Charcoal drawing by Wednesday (Due Friday) Thursday - Students will begin a still life with black and white charcoal on gray paper. They will start by blocking in the shapes and shadow edges and then finding the light shapes following the same procedures that they learned whith the white charcoal on black paper drawing. Friday - Hand in White Charcoal Drawing (40pts.) Art History: The Baroque in France - late 1600s
Week 8 10/13 - 10/15
Students will begin working on a black and white charcoal on gray paper still life. They Should have it blocked in by Monday and the lights tinted by Wednesday. Next week we will be starting on self portraits. No School Thursday or Friday.
Sketchbooks due Friday of Week 9
Week 9 10/20 - 10/25
Students will continue with their black and white charcoal on gray paper still life. They will work on the core shadows being careful not to go to dark and finding the reflective lights - leaving them the value of the gray paper. By Wednesday they should be working on the cast shadows which are the darkest shadows and finishing up the drawing by the end of class on Thursday. This is the last day that the still life will be set up. We will be starting proportions on the human figure and taking pictures for self portraits.
Friday: Film on Aesthetics Hand in: Gray Paper Still Life (60 points) Sketchbooks (100 points)
All late work from past assignments are due today
term 2 Week 1 Students will work on their cylinder men learning about proportions of the human form and have their pictures taken for self portraits that we will begin next week. Assignment 1, Cylinder men will be due on Friday, November 7th.
Week 2 11/10/08 - 11/15/08 Students will Work on the Figures in motion on Monday and Tuesday and begin working on Proportions of the human head Wednesday and Thursday.
Due Friday 11/15 Figure in Motion (30pts.)
