Unit 1 Homework

In order to accomplish this assignment, you will need to gain a good understanding of the principles of design and the elements of art and how artists use them in order to create good design.

 

1.  Find seven different works of art, one for each of the seven principles of design. For example, you should be able to identify how the artist used the principle of  emphasis in one of the works, how the artist used the principle of unity in another, and so on through the other 5 principles.

2.  Cut out the works of art and paste them in your sketchbook on the page to the right as labeled in class.

3. ON the page to the left, you will label the principle that you identify with the work, the element or elements of art that the artist used to follow the principle, and how the artist used them.

Principle:  Emphasis

Element(s):  Value, Shape

How:  The artist creates high contrast with most of the work being very light and the small shapes in the lower left being very dark, drawing your eye to them and creating emphasis.
