December's Winter Wonderland brings a wonderland of excitement and learning to
our second grade classroom! We've begun our introduction to the Native
Americans of the Southwest. This unit is full of hands-on projects for which
we'll need extra help in the classroom, as well as some extra materials. Check
your email regularly for updates!
In Social Studies this month we'll learn the basics of global geography
including the location of the continents and oceans, as well as U.S. land
formations and basic mapping skills.
Our class has made the connection between the Earth's structure, plate
tectonics, and the change our planet has undergone over geologic time.
Rewinding Earth's clock has led us to an exciting discussion about dinosaurs!
This month we'll explore the different types of dinosaurs that existed over
the 100 million years that they were believed to roam the Earth. We'll dig up
dino bones in the science center, as well reconstruct dinosaur skeletons.
Chapter 3 in Math concentrates on graphing skills. Students will be making
many graphs throughout this chapter through both investigation, and interview
of fellow classmates.
