Take-Home Reading Program

Our 1st Graders will be borrowing books from our class library daily. Students’ reading levels will be assessed periodically throughout the year. Based on their reading level, they will be assigned to a group of books that are suitable for their current level.
Students will be taking home along with their books a reading log. It is important that a family member sits with the student and listens to him/her read aloud. It is not necessary for the student to finish the book that same day. Some books may be long, and may require several days to finish. It is recommended that the student spends a minimum of eight minutes reading “to” someone at home.
The Reading Log will be placed in the last divider pocket in the STAR Binder. Students will fill out the Book Title cell and the Date cell. Parents are expected to fill out the Pages Read, Time and Parent Signature cells. I will initial their Reading Logs the next day.
Parents will be asked to pay $10 for any lost books.
