I pray that everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable vacation and returns to
school rested and energized!

We will wrap up our Egypt and Simple Machines unit the week we get back,
InshaAllah.

After that, we plan to begin our Ancient China unit, InshaAllah. This unit
will take approximately 4 weeks, and will tenatively include a field trip to
the Smithsonian in DC to take a tour focused on Arts of China at the Freer
gallery on Thursday, January 14th at 10:30 a.m. InshaAllah we can view some
Egytpian items as well. We will need 3 parent volunteers to drive.

As with the Egypt unit, we will apply our knowledge of community,
including plant and animal communities, to the civilization of ancient
China. We will focus on some important contributions the Ancient Chinese
gave to the world, including paper, silk and the compass. If you have any
artifacts from China (especially related to ancient China) that might enrich
our room environment (make sure you are not too concerned about if something
might happen to it). Alternatively, if you have something delicate, we can
have an ancient China show and tell day.

The field trip to Colvin Mill to supplement our study of Simple Machines has
been scheduled for early March (that was the earliest date available).

JAK for your continued support of our learning.
