Well here it is almost March! "In like a lion and hopefully out like a
lamb"! The students continue to make great progress as we move towards the
last quarter of the school year. They are learning the upper case cursive
letters now and will soon be writing in cursive most of the time. In math,
we've been working on our multiplication tables. Students should be
practicing their facts every night, especially the 2s, 3s, 5s, 6s, and 10s.
Please practice with your youngster every day! They are learning strategies
as well to help them with their math facts, especially for those that are
difficult to memorize.
In Social Studies, we've finished up our unit on Famous Americans and
Ancient Mali. We've started learning about Ancient Greece and will follow
that up with our study of Ancient Rome. In Science, we are studying the
Earth and Moon. We will visit Hylton High School Planetarium in April.
Soon after that we will start learning about Explorers and Energy.
We will have our annual Dr. Seuss Read-in on Monday, March 2 (Dr. Seuss's
birthday) with the 7th grade language arts classes from Parkside Middle
School. The children really enjoy this every year!
Please continue to encourage your child to read daily for at least 20
minutes. Remember, 1 AR book and test a month is required. Also check your
child's agenda, homework folder daily, and the Friday envelope for important
information.
