11/09/09 Today we began our new novel unit in Language Arts, the Revolutionary War. During this novel unit, students will read on their own and work on lessons regarding theme. Books will be given out on Wednesday. Tomorrow is a vocabulary quiz and final manuscripts of short stories are due on Wednesday. In Social Studies, we will be finishing our Colonies unit tomorrow and have a test on Thursday. HOMEWORK: Language Arts: Read 30 min.; Vocab quiz tomorrow; final manuscript due Wednesday; Finish p. 3&4 in your novel unit packet for Wednesday. 11/02/09 Today we finished presenting our Early Colonies skit. On Wednesday, we will begin learning about the Colonial Regions. In Language Arts, we finished our bookshare presentations. Second drafts of our short stories are due on Wednesday and new vocabulary words will be introduced that day. HOMEWORK: Language Arts: Read 30 min.; 2nd draft due Wednesday Social Studies: Finish "Why did They Come?" page 10/27/09 Today we took our Reading benchmark in Language Arts. For the rest of the week we will be working on our Short Stories, presenting our bookshares and have a Vocab quiz on Thursday. In Social Studies, we began our Colonies unit yesterday with a lesson on the Columbian Exchange. Today we talked about reasons people left Europe to go to the New World. For the rest of the week we will be writing and presenting our Colonies skits. HOMEWORK: Language Arts: Read 30 min.; 1st draft of short story due tomorrow; Vocab quiz on Thursday; bookshares due Thursday. Social Studies: Postcard due tomorrow. 10/21/09 In Social Studies,we finished our explorers unit. Because of the high number of absences, I've decided to wait until next week to begin our Colonies unit. Instead, we are doing a cumulative review for the next two days. In Language Arts, we began work on our book shares and our new writing assignments. We are writing short stories, and I've posted the rubric in the document files. First drafts are due next Wednesday 10/28; book shares are due next Thursday, 10/29. HOMEWORK: Language Arts: Read 30 min.; 1st draft of short story due Wed 10/28; book share due Thurs. 10/29 Social Studies: None
