TAKING NOTES

Draw a two-inch left margin to write key words and phrases.

Underline, circle, or color-code important words and phrases.

Use pictures and diagrams to summarize and condense information.

Keep notes concise. Record key phrases, not sentences,

that answer who, what, when, where, why, and how.

Use an outline to summarize and organize important facts

about the key words and phrases. Use Roman numerals

to list main topics.

Write key facts about each subject under the corresponding

topic sentence. Indent and use capital letters to highlight

these facts.

Indent again and use numbers to list specific details about

each fact.

Include information such as dates, names, and places.
