FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Can I send in a special snack for my child's birthday? Yes. I do ask that you let me know at least two days before, so I can make plans. Please be aware there are students with allergies, so please no nut products. Can I come eat lunch with my child? Sure! Please make sure that you have a valid photo i.d. We eat from 11:40- 12:10 What if my child forgets to turn in their homework? First grade is a learning experience. We're teaching the process of completing an assignment at home and bringing it back to school. You don't have to go home & come back to school to deliver it. Please just return it the next day. If your child forgot their take home folder, I'll use another folder as a back up until he/she brings the "panther" folder back. How much at home reading should I be doing with my child? 15-30 minutes is required each night. You can read to your child, with your child or have your child read to you. You can read the books they are working on in reading group or a book of their choice. Please sign their night reading log. Simply read, read, read! :) How do I get in touch with the teacher? You may call me any time before 8:45 a.m. or after 3:35 p.m. at the school (703-753-7741). Anytime in between then, I am in class. Please remember that I am teaching and can't have a conference with you then. You can reach me anytime by e-mail (shradehe@pwcs.edu) How do I change how my child is getting home? Please call the office at 703-753-7741 who will then notify me or send me a note in the morning. Please don't e-mail this information. If I happen to be absent that day, my substitute won't have access to my e-mail. How many students are in the class? 23 Mrs. Barrett(Sawyer's mom) Mrs. Patterson (Connor's Mom) How will I know if school is closing early? The phone tree parents--Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Hoffmann will call to inform you of closings. What is the behavior plan for the class? Our Behavior Plan: Every child has a panther on his or her desk as a reminder to "stay on track". If I give 3 warnings for the same behavior, I take the panther. The panther can be earned back if the student gets back on track. Serious offenses, such as hurting others being destructive, lying and stealing are automatic loss of panther. If the panther is on the desk at the end of the day, then your child is a "quality student" and the person on the calendar will be green. If your child does not have his or her panther at the end of the day, there will be an X on the calendar and a note about what happened. Please sign the note and return it to school to go in the data notebook. Each student is responsible for coloring his or her folder; so unless there is an X and a note please know that your child is on green if the folder is not colored. Green is staying on track and being a quality student(doing exactly what is expected). Purples will be used, but very sparingly. Purple is when students go above and beyond what is expected. |
