Imagine for a moment that you are a ten-year-old living on a small, isolated farm near Jamestown in the year 1699. As you sit down to dinner with your family one evening, your father tells you that he is thinking about moving the family to Williamsburg, the new capital, where your brother is already working as an apprentice in the blacksmith shop. What do you think of this news? Your family has not had it easy in Jamestown, but you are used to your surroundings and to your family's way of life. Would you be excited about the possibility of moving? Would you be afraid? Would you not want to go at all? Why or why not? Using everything you have learned about life in Jamestown along with links on this web quest as your starting line, you will research life in Colonial Williamsburg and compare the two. You will write a persuasive letter to your father making a good argument for either staying in Jamestown or moving to Williamsburg. You will also select other projects to present to your father along with this letter. How many you choose to do is entirely up to you based on what grade you would like to receive on your web quest. Have fun on your journey! Grading for overall web quest participation is as follows: A= completion of 4 projects, one MUST be the letter. B= completion of 3 projects, one MUST be the letter. C= completion of 2 projects, one MUST be the letter. D= completion of only the letter. Rubrics for each project can be seen under Rubric section. Grading of each project individually will be used as a Language Arts grade. Students will select any 3 for use in Language Arts grade book. All others are extra credit. Three are required for Language Arts, the letter plus 2 others. Example: A student completes 4 projects. They will receive an A in social studies for completing their web quest. The student will then choose 3, one being the letter, of the 4 for grading in Language Arts. These 3 will be individually graded for 3 grades in Language Arts. The 4th project will be counted as extra credit. IF A STUDENT ONLY COMPLETES THE LETTER, THEY WILL RECEIVE 2 ZEROS IN LANGUAGE ARTS AND A "D" AS AN OVERALL WEB QUEST GRADE IN SOCIAL STUDIES.
