Welcome

Welcome to Cumberland County Elementary School's home on the Internet.

Our Mission is to take responsibility for setting high expectations for all students and to provide the environment, instruction, and support to ensure that all students learn and achieve as measured by rigorous standards.

Please make arrangements to stop in and speak to your child's teacher. Be a participant in your child's education, not a spectator!

Message from the Principal

Welcome to Cumberland Elementary School! I am very excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve as principal for the 2009-10 school year. As stated in our school’s mission statement, our faculty and staff “set high expectations for all students and provide the environment, instruction, and support to ensure that all students are learning and achieving as measured by rigorous standards.” This will continue to be our focus for the upcoming school year.
The CCES staff is committed to challenging students in order to achieve their goals in a caring, safe, and nurturing environment. Parents and volunteers are an important part of this experience. Your participation is welcomed.
I invite parents to be part of the school and encourage them to maintain close contact with their child’s teachers. Please attend events, volunteer, and join your child for lunch whenever possible. With both parents and school working together, we can provide our children with an outstanding education.

Spanish Resource Classes at CCES

On Tuesday (11/17/2009) it was announced that our Spanish Resource teacher, Mrs. Lennon, has been repositioned within the county. For the remainder of the semester, she will be taking over a Spanish class at the High School. Those elementary homerooms which were currently taking Spanish here at the elementary school will be divided up among the other resources for the remainder of the term. Please join us in wishing her good luck with her new placement and a speedy return to the elementary school at the end of the semester!

Benchmark Window
Test Taking Tips
Benchmark tests are an integral part of our curriculum. These regularly scheduled assessments help your child's teacher to gauge both what your child knows, but what they are weak in as well. Feel free to contact your child's teacher to find out if/when your child will b eparticipating in a benchmark exam. The above link has a fantastic resource to help both you and your child prepare for any test!

Flu Prevention
Scrub Club
One of the easiest ways you can prevent the spread of dangerous diseases such as "THE FLU" is through simple hygiene. Keeping hands clean by washing (sing the "Happy Birthday Song" while washing to ensure they've been washed long enough), keeping your hands out of your mouth and away from your eyes, covering coughs and sneezes, and getting plenty of rest are simple ways you can help combat these illnesses. If your child starts showing symptoms of the flu, or any similar illness, keep them home so that they do not spread the germs to their friends. Visit the above link to find some fun games you can play with your child at home and learn more about how to keep them safe.
