In fourth grade, the focus of social studies instruction is the geography and history of our home state, Virginia. We will begin the year with a brief review of mapping skills. We will then study our state's geography, the First Americans, Jamestown, Colonial Virginia, the American Revolution, the New Nation, the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Civil Rights Movement, 20th Century Virginia, and our state's government. Students will take the Virginia Studies SOL test in the final weeks of the 2012-2013 school year.
