Writing Prompts
Prompt writing is one of the many writing genres that our students of today need to be proficient. Prompt writing means that you are asked to write about a particular topic and stay on that topic. In order to maximize quality students need to remember to incorporate the writing prompt within their written piece, state a clear topic sentence, give strong supporting details, and create a conclusion that restates the writing prompt.
Each week our class will be given a series of three choices to choose from. Each student is to take the prompt through the complete writing process. Friday mornings students will turn in their plan, draft, revisions/edits, and FINAL copy. All of this will be written in their Writing Journals. As a class we will score and evaluate its quality. Please support your student by setting aside time each day for him or her to work through the writing process to complete a quality published piece. Selected “best quality” pieces will be published on the website weekly under Student Work.
Week of: October 27-31
1. Imagine the scariest haunted house. What would make it super-scary?
2. If you are dressing up for Halloween, what would your costume look like?
3. What is your favorite type of candy or treat? Remember to only choose one and stick to your topic.
Tuesday: Write your first draft. Remember to write your ideas in a paragraph.
Wednesday: Have an adult or sibling edit your work. Then rewrite your paragraph.
Thursday: Revise your paragraph by adding details to make it more clear, or making other improvements. Write your final draft to turn in.
All work will be done in your Writing Composition Notebook. This notebook will be turned in on Friday.
