| Welcome to the First Grade at Gloria Dei School!
The first day of First Grade is almost here! Your teachers have been
getting the rooms ready and making plans for this year. We know that you
have also been preparing for the coming year.
Here are some suggestions of ways you can ensure a successsful First Grade
experience.
1. Check out the supply list (see the home page of the Gloria Dei site )
and make sure you have all the needed supplies. With sales on school
supplies in the stores, this is a good time to stock up. You might want to
get an extra box of crayons and markers, to resupply during the year.
Extra glue sticks are also good to have. If each child brings in one box of
yellow pencils we shouls have enough to last the year, but you will need
pencils, crayons, glue sticks, and scissors at home to stock a homework box
or desk for your child.
2. Please be aware of school dress code as you shop for clothes. Safe,
well-fitting shoes are important. We will be on the playground or in PE most
days, so drss your child in comfortable play clothes. Tops with thin
straps, short skirts and shorts, sandles and clogs are non-allowed items.
3. Your child should be spending some time each week reading and being
read to. It is also helpful to let you child practice math skills such as
counting coins, reading numbers, telling time, and even practicing simple
math facts. Look on this web site for beginning of the year math
facts and sight words.
You should have been contacted by your child's teacher by this time. We are
looking forward to meeting you at the open house and to working with you
during this special first grade year.
