How do I go about getting a conference with the teacher?

Send a note by way of your child or call the office and have a message
placed in my box stating that you wish to have a conference. I will
schedule one as soon as possible. Communication is a high priority to me.

How can I get my child to bring graded work home?

If your child is not bringing work home, please notify me. There are
several things that we can try but in the end, the responsibility lies with
your child.

How can I help my child learn to become more independent?

Allow your child to walk into his/her classroom in the morning alone. Do
not make an attempt to unpack his backpack in the morning or pack it up in
the afternoon. Give your child an opportunity to learn to do these things
without parental help. Also, insist that your child do the majority of his
or her homework alone. Asking for guidance is acceptable. Your child may
not understand a particular concept and it is good to reinforce what is
taught in the classroom. It is not good to do the work for your child.
Where projects are concerned, helping your child learn time management is
much better than doing the project for him. Even if your child's project is
late, I would rather he or she do it independently.

What should I do if my child is unable to finish his or her homework?

Please write me a note explaining the circumstances behind a homework
offense. Things happen which are beyond a student's control. I need to
know.
